Just North
East of
Page, Antelope Canyon awaits the sun. Mid-day, sunbeams dance a Canyon Tango for
those of us who venture into these deep canyons. The dance is brief, and needs
to be watched many times. We ventured into the mid section around 10 am, and
our guide took us from one end to the other quickly, pointing out places where
we will want to get good shots as light started to climb down into the depths.
About 20 minutes before the highlight of the day, when the sun dances across
the bottom sand in the larger cavern rooms, we were joined by 20 photographers
from an Arizona Highways photography trip! We stood shoulder to shoulder, and
in some cases had to shout at someone for just standing in the way. I asked the
guide which days of the week are the least likely to fight the crowds, and he
smiled a reply, "Only when the rain falls, and then you would not want to
be caught in here. Just last month, ...."
